The forest resource of Papua New Guinea is significant to the country’s economy, environment and social wellbeing. Hence, making plans to manage and utilize the forest resource is mandatory.
The development of the forest resource is undertaken in accordance with the National Forest Plan, Provincial Forest Plan and the National Development Forestry Guidelines.
Other supportive documents such as the Environmental Key Standards, Logging Code of Practice, Forest Management Agreement and the Project Agreement provide guidance to ensuring compliance and effective monitoring.
Adaptive Management
The PNG Forest Authority keeps up to date with changes that are taking place in relation to the management and utilization of the forest resources. However, its actions are guided by the Government’s existing policy and legislative framework.
Planning of operations
All major timber concession areas are processed and operated in accordance with the National Forest Plan and the respective Provincial Forest Plans.
